Ramadan Tools

Sehri and Iftar times, a countdown to the next Ramadan, and Fidya and Kaffara calculators — all in one place.

1 · Sehri & Iftar times

Sehri ends at Fajr. Imsak is shown 10 minutes before Fajr, as commonly used — your local mosque may use a different precaution. Iftar is at Maghrib. Times use the Karachi method (Fajr 18°, Isha 18°) unless you change it on the prayer time calculator page — here the method is fixed to Karachi for simplicity, with the same solar calculation validated to within 1 minute for Karachi and Lahore.

2 · Countdown to the next Ramadan

Loading…

Calculated Umm al-Qura calendar. The actual start is announced by local moon sighting and may differ by one day.

3 · Fidya calculator

For fasts you cannot make up (for example chronic illness or old age): Fidya is feeding one poor person per missed fast.

Enter your local rate — for example, what a charity in your city charges for one person's meal. If your local rate is for two meals a day, double the meal cost first, or enter the daily rate directly.

4 · Kaffara calculator (broken Ramadan fast)

For deliberately breaking a Ramadan fast without a valid excuse: first, fast 60 consecutive days. If unable, feed 60 poor people.

This is Kaffara for a broken Ramadan fast, not for a broken oath (which is 10 people). Conditions and order differ by school — consult a qualified scholar for your situation.

Please note: Fidya and Kaffara amounts are estimates based on the rate you enter. They are not a religious ruling. Check the local rate and your situation with a qualified scholar or a trusted charity.

Frequently asked questions

What is Sehri and Iftar?

Sehri (Suhoor) is the pre-dawn meal before fasting begins. Iftar is the meal that breaks the fast at sunset. On this page, Sehri ends at Fajr time (with Imsak shown 10 minutes before Fajr, as commonly used), and Iftar is at Maghrib time.

What is Fidya?

Fidya is compensation for fasts a person cannot make up, for example due to chronic illness or old age. It is feeding one poor person for each missed fast, or its monetary equivalent at the local rate. The amount varies by place and school, so check the local rate with a scholar or charity.

What is Kaffara for breaking a fast?

Kaffara is expiation for deliberately breaking a Ramadan fast without a valid excuse. The first option is fasting 60 consecutive days. If a person is unable to do that, the alternative is feeding 60 poor people. Conditions and order differ by school — consult a qualified scholar for your situation. This is different from Kaffara for a broken oath, which is feeding 10 poor people.

When does Ramadan start?

Ramadan starts with the sighting of the new moon, so the exact start date is announced locally and can differ by one day from a calculated calendar. The countdown on this page uses the calculated Umm al-Qura calendar as a planning reference.

How long is the fast?

Fasting duration is from Fajr (dawn) to Maghrib (sunset) on the same day. It varies by city and season — longer in summer, shorter in winter, and much longer in high latitudes in summer.
